Food Service Manager I [United States]


 

A Food Service Manager I operates a District cafeteria that has an elementary school feeding program and/or is smaller than the typical secondary school cafeteria.

Job Duties

  • Supervising and participating in the preparation, heating or cooking, assembling, and serving of food for students and faculty.
  • Maintaining food quality standards, including appearance and taste.
  • Planning menus and following standardized recipes or procedures to prepare or heat food and following approved price and portion schedules.
  • Supervising food service personnel by setting up work schedules, assigning and directing work, evaluating work performance, counseling, recommending disciplinary action, and participating in on-the-job training of food service personnel and student employees.
  • Ordering food and supplies and ensuring proper storage and use

Qualifications

One year of experience in commercial or institutional quantity food preparation, including the serving of a major meal component of at least 50 meals per day.

Education

Graduation from high school or evidence of equivalent educational proficiency, AND Evidence of successful completion of adult school, college-level, or equivalent classes in supervision (*Note: SIX (6) months of experience supervising, training, and evaluating the work performance of other food service employees may be substituted for the supervision class requirement mentioned above)

Experience:

One year of experience in commercial or institutional quantity food preparation, including the serving of a major meal component of at least 50 meals per day

Special:

  • A valid “ServSafe Certificate”, National Registry certificate, or equivalent certificate.
  • A valid Los Angeles Unified School District Food Handler’s Health Certificate. -
  • A valid California Driver License and use of an automobile may be required for some positions
  • Attendance in and successful completion of a two week Food Services Manager Certification Training Program is required prior to regular assignment.

Special Physical Requirements -

  • Stand and walk on concrete and tile floors for long periods of time
  • Withstand a wide range of temperatures
  • Lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds
