Essential:
  • High School Diploma. If no relevant experience, higher education requirement
  • Over three years and up to five years’ experience in fundraising or customer service-related work
  • Documented excellence in relational skills and customer service/donor care
  • Meticulous with strong organizational skills to manage concurrent projects
  • Excellent English skills
  • Proficiency in MS Office and fundraising database

Preferred: Bachelor’s degree or relevant experience. Demonstrated database skills (DonorPerfect).

Job Synopsis

The Donor Engagement Associate position gives leadership to the day-to-day interactions with broad subsets of MCC U.S. donors and represents MCC to the public, including providing donor care for all phone calls, emails, and office guests directed to the Donor Relations department. This is a collaborative role in the Donor Relations network, joining with teams across the country to ensure that all MCC donors are surprised and delighted by the gratitude, acknowledgment, and recognition they receive. Examples of donor groups include new, lapsed, and recovered donors and monthly, frequent, and legacy donors. MCC donor stewardship strategies include personal contacts, via phone, email, and notecards with donors. The position is directed and supervised by the Associate Director of Donor Relations. This position primarily serves the MCC U.S. Donor Relations department, MCC U.S. regional offices, and constituents who support MCC programs.

Key Responsibilities

Specific tasks and duties: This position works to cultivate and retain donors in selected donor groups and increase their engagement with and support of MCC. The position collaborates closely with regional donor relations staff and national donor relations department staff to ensure a cohesive donor experience. This position manages the implementation of monthly, new, and lapsed donor strategies. This position is the primary staff person to respond to incoming phone calls and emails for the Donor Relations department.
Donor stewardship – 50%
  • Conduct donor engagement and retention activities to foster continuing and increased financial support.

  • Support donor retention efforts, specifically by making personal contact with new, recovered, and frequent donors via phone calls, emails, and notecards.

  • Implement monthly, lapsed, and legacy donor engagement strategies.

  • Explore and develop other creative ways to engage with these donor groups.

  • Support the development of stewardship strategies for alumni, staff, and board members.

  • Be involved in additional related activities as MCC develops other donor retention and stewardship practices.

  • Donor relations and responsive care – 35% (fluctuates seasonally)
  • Engage with callers, emailers, and office guests to provide exemplary service and care, while addressing requests, questions, and suggestions with professionalism.

  • Listen attentively and reflectively, with discernment to donor needs, researching as needed for the best response.

  • Connect and build relationships with donors as part of an immediate and empathic response.

  • Be a leading presence in representing MCC with all donor contacts.

  • Typical caller topics include making online donations, receipt requests, questions about MCC program priorities and disaster responses, but will include a broad range of inquiries.

  • Planning and record management – 10%
  • Plan and schedule donor contacts

  • Update and maintain accurate donor records in the database

  • Pull needed donor lists from database to support engagement activities

  • Administration – 5%
  • Participate in Donor Relations departmental and network meetings.

  • Participate in monthly donor support team meetings.

  • Maintain strong relationships with MCC U.S. and regional Donor Relations representatives to ensure a cohesive donor experience.

  • Provide donation and batch processing support (seasonal and during disasters).

  • Other duties as assigned on a temporary basis.
    Supervision: No Direct Supervision
    Travel expectations: Travel is negligible with less than 30 nights away per year. Travel is within the U.S.
    Physical activity/demand: Occasionally moving about to accomplish tasks or move from one worksite to another. Light work that includes moving objects up to twenty pounds. Constantly remaining in a stationary position, often standing, or sitting for prolonged periods of time. Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers. Assessing the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of work assigned. This position may occasionally be exposed to a noisy environment.
