The Position
Internship in cellular neuroscience

Your department and team

The Neural Signaling section within the Neuroscience and Rare Disease department (NRD) is located in Basel. The overarching goal of the Neural Signaling Section is to move forward drug discovery projects, from target assessment to early clinical phase, in the therapeutic area of neurodegenerative diseases.


You will have the opportunity to collaborate with two labs, consisting of scientists,

research associates and two interns, working on two different neurodegenerative diseases but interested in a common pathway that you will be exploring. The focus of this position is to understand the molecular mechanism underlying processing of proteins involved in neurodegeneration.

Your tasks and responsibilities (max 5)


  • You will perform laboratory activities such as cell lines maintenance, treatment and biochemical experimentation.
  • You will prepare samples and in close collaboration with other technical experts, you will perform protein analysis.
  • You will implement new assays or optimize existing protocols based on literature search to meet the needs of the project.
  • You will prepare data, analyze, interpret and present the data in the lab meetings


Your profile
(max 5)

  • You are currently enrolled at university (studying master degree in biological science) or freshly graduated in 2023.
  • You are excited about performing laboratory experiments, learning techniques and

motivated to perform research on cellular neuroscience

  • You have hands on experience on iPSC maintenance (neurons and microglia), protein

biochemistry such as SDS PAGE, Immunoprecipitation, western blot, ELISA and experience in preparing samples for mass spectrometry or similar

  • You have the ability to design, perform and report the experimental data in high quality
  • Fluency in English (written and spoken)
