Bioprocess Data Scientist (m/f/d)

Overview: As a Bioprocess Data Scientist, you will play a pivotal role at the intersection of our consulting and software teams. This exciting opportunity allows you to combine your passion for bioprocessing and data science to develop algorithms and applications that empower bioprocess engineers in the pharmaceutical industry. By leveraging your expertise, you will contribute to decision-making processes and provide innovative solutions for clients worldwide.

Your role in our team

  • Develop algorithms using Python 3 for the analysis of data from pharmaceutical process development and manufacturing, which will be deployed in the form of Jupyter notebooks
  • Solve data analytics problems for global clients and integrate generic solutions into our software platform
  • Collaborate closely with users from the pharmaceutical industry to understand their needs and develop tailored solutions and trainings for provided algorithms
  • Engage with our consulting team to leverage their knowledge and collaborate on novel statistical approaches, which can be transformed into software applications
  • Maintain regular communication with our software development team to stay updated on the latest improvements and receive feedback on your code
  • Act as the product owner for all Jupyter notebook-based algorithms in our software
  • Take responsibility for maintaining the algorithms, ensuring they remain up-to-date, and writing comprehensive documentation
  • Demonstrate a proactive approach to their work, actively seeking opportunities to contribute innovative ideas and drive continuous improvement in the bioprocess data analysis field

Your profile

  • MSc in Biotechnology, Bio- or Chemical Engineering
  • Strong understanding of pharmaceutical manufacturing, including upstream and downstream processing
  • Knowledge of mass balances and soft sensors in fermentation processes
  • Working knowledge and experience with Data Science frameworks, IDEs, and toolkits
  • Proficiency in Python 3 and object-oriented programming
  • Excellent written, data visualization and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex technical concepts

Preferred skills

  • Scientific proficiency in early-stage and late-stage development processes
  • Experience in pharmaceutical process development or manufacturing
  • Knowledge and experience in statistical time series analysis, such as particle filters and smoothing algorithms
  • Proficiency in mechanistic modeling of fermentation and chromatography steps
  • Familiarity with version control platforms like Bitbucket and GitLab, as well as Jupyter notebooks
  • Mathematical ability to set up and solve linear, non-linear, and differential equations
  • Hands-on experience in developing data-driven models combined with physics-based models

We offer an attractive salary package in line with your qualification, experience and individual competencies. We are legally obliged to state that the minimum salary for this position refers to the applicable collective agreement, which is EUR 40.000,00 p.a. (based on full-time). Of course, we are willing to pay a market-rate salary depending on your qualifications and professional background.
