Under the supervision of the Fire Chief/Safety Officer, the Associate Hazardous Materials Specialist functions as the institution expert resource in the identification, management, remediation and disposal of hazardous materials. Develops, prepares and implements the institution’s hazardous materials handling manual and updates as required. Performs periodic hazardous material inspections of the institution and monitors the storage/disposal and handling. Develops lesson plans and conducts In-Service Training classes for staff on the safe handling of hazardous materials. Prepares periodic hazardous materials safety reports. Monitors the institution is in compliance with laws, rules and regulations of control agencies and government entities. Prepares analysis and assessments in response to mitigation and/or litigation on hazardous material issues. May assist the Health and Safety Officer in determining industrial eligibility in hazardous material exposure compensation claims.
