Digital Media Adviser (AADV) - Hon Richard Marles MP


 

Applications are invited for the full-time ongoing position of Digital Media Adviser in the Office of Minister the Hon Richard Marles MP based in Australian Parliament House in Canberra, ACT, or the Minister’s Electorate Office in Geelong, VIC.

The Digital Media Adviser will work with the Media Team using social media platforms to communicate key messages and content, including but not limited to the Deputy Prime Minister’s Defence portfolio. Reporting to the Media Director, the Digital Media Adviser would develop unique content and work with the Media Team on language and narrative to be used in posts and engagement.

The key duties of the position are, however are not limited to:

  • Posting both electorate and ministerial content on social media platforms
  • Creating unique content for social media
  • Establishing a social media strategy with guidance from the Media Director, including a specific plan and targets on how to build our followers.
  • Establishing and updating the monthly forward media plan with social media opportunities in consultation with the Media Director
  • Engaging with the Department of Defence on their social media strategy and ensuring it is aligned with the Deputy Prime Minister’s plan and strategy
  • Engaging with other offices that have intersection with the Defence portfolio to align strategies and identify opportunities to work on joint social media projects
  • Establish a database of our top stakeholders and linked users on social media to target our media strategy
  • Work with policy advisers on social media opportunities in their space
  • Work with the Media Director to identify digital media opportunities that can contribute to unique social media content
  • Providing a monthly social media analysis on growth and opportunities to refine strategy going forward
  • Partake and assist in the planning of media training for the Minister
  • Work with the Media Team with day-to-day tasks, including parliamentary research
  • Interstate travel may be required as part of this role
  • Others duties as required

The ideal applicant should possess the following skills and experience:

  • Demonstrated digital media skills including photography, videography and social media planning and placement
  • The ability to communicate and negotiate effectively and persuasively in both written and verbal form
  • Experience with copy writing, digital media strategy, planning and reporting is desirable
  • Sound knowledge of the political landscape and the Australian parliamentary and political processes
  • Demonstrated professional integrity and the ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality
  • Proven reliability in meeting deadlines and commitments, especially in high pressure situations
  • Shared values and demonstrated understanding of the long-term priorities of the Australian Government
  • Familiarity with the Minister’s portfolio’s areas of Defence is desirable but not essential

Employment Conditions:

The position is offered under the Members of Parliament (Staff) Act 1984and conditions are outlined in the Commonwealth Members of Parliament Staff Enterprise Agreement 2020-2023which include:

  • A commencing salary between $82,319 and $98,739 will be negotiated depending on experience and relevant skills
  • An additional Personal Staff Allowance of $30,779 is payable in recognition of, and as compensation for, reasonable additional hours of work
  • Relocation assistance, studies assistance and paid study leave may also be available (subject to eligibility requirements)
  • An employer superannuation contribution of 15.4% will be payable

All ministerial staff will be bound by a code of conduct and be required to obtain and maintain an Australian Government security clearance (NV2).

A probationary period of three months will apply and may be subject to extension.
